Tuna melt is absolutely my biggest surprise in food recently. I heard about this sandwich before but was very suspicious. When I was a kid, my go to guilty pleasure sandwich was always pizza toast, which as you can understand from the name- tomato sauce, melted cheese and some add-ins. I never thought of combining canned tuna with melted cheese. But listen to that guys- it’s an unbelievable combination! I cannot believe I haven’t had this sandwich all my life. This version I’m sharing with you here is inspired by the first tune melt I have ever had, in a polish-jewish diner near my house in downtown Manhattan. Give it a try, it’s worth it so much!

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of homemade brioche brea
  • 2 cans of tuna
  • 3 ribs of celery
  • ¼ red onion
  • 2 tablespoons mayo
  • 1 teaspoon Atlantic sea salt
  • 2 Sliced Swiss cheese for a sandwich)

Lets Start Cooking!

step 1

step 2

Chop the celery and the onions into tiny cubes.

step 3

In a bowl, combine tuna (without the oil in the can), celery, onion, mayo and sea salt.

step 4

Build the sandwich- add 2-3 tablespoons of the tuna mix on one piece of bread, add two slices of Swiss cheese and close.

step 5

Toast on a preheated pan on medium heat for 2-3 min.

step 6

Flip, add a sip of water and cover with a lid (It will help the cheese to melt properly). After a minute remove the lid and keep toasting for additional 2 minutes.

step 7

Remove from the pan and enjoy immediately.
