Sure, you can grab a pack from the store, but where’s the fun in that? Plus, once you’ve tried making your own tortillas, you’ll never want to go back to the store-bought stuff. But don’t worry, making flour tortillas is easier than you might think. All you need is a few basic ingredients and a little bit of elbow grease. Trust us, it’s worth it. Once you taste that first bite of a homemade tortilla, you’ll be hooked. In this recipe, we’ll guide you through the steps to make your own tortillas that are soft, fluffy, and downright delicious. Usually flour tortillas made with vegetable oil or lard, I used butter in this recipe, because….. it’s more delicious. Whether you’re a seasoned pro in the kitchen or a newbie looking to up your cooking game, this recipe is for you. So grab a rolling pin and let’s get to work!

  • 500 gr AP flour
  • 280 ml warm water
  • 50 gr butter, soften
  • 12 gr salt
  • 8 gr baking powder

Lets Start Cooking!

step 1

In a bowl, mix flour, salt and baking powder.

Add the butter and work it through your hands to create a sandy texture.

Add the warm water and mix until you get an homogeneous dough.

Transfer the dough to a working surface and knead for 6-8 minutes or until the dough is elastic and smooth.

Round into a tight ball and let it rest, covered with a towel, for about 10-15 min.

Divide the dough into 30-35 gr pieces.

Round each piece into a tight ball and let it rest for additional 10 minutes.

Flour your working surface and roll out each ball to a thin round sheet (using a rolling pin). Roll as thin as you can.

Bake the tortillas on a super hot pan until it blisters, then flip and bake for another 10-15 sec.

In between baking sessions, keep the tortillas covered with a towel. It will keep them warm and soft.
